Vespers – a poem by M.J. Iuppa

Vespers

Thunder over Ontario
echoes so deep that

no one hears rain, or
the silence before rain

dimples the lake that
mirrors a dark sky . . .

Standing there, on
the lip of sand, looking

up, or is it down—rain
fills the cup of my hands.
