On Faith – a poem by Anna Harris-Parker

On Faith

Truth be told, I envy
those who walk with Jesus,

talk with God, say things
like You’re in my prayers.

The Lord will provide.

without batting an eye.

I do believe
in a higher power,

particularly in
the small morning hours

when nature first wakes:
a yellow-breasted finch

lands on the bare branch
outside my office window,

a double daffodil
catches the climbing sun.

As for me and my heart,
we shall serve the lore

of a different kindness:
faceless, nameless—

out there all the same.
