Forgetfulness – a poem by Alicia Viguer-Espert

Forgetfulness

Alone in my house
I could contemplate the empty
solitude of my own soul.

Logs in the fireplace wink,
the sky pales like water,
the creek stops rumbling.

Behind the window I guess
the scent from the mountains
pregnant with rosemary.

Serene thoughts of you appear,
-dew from a cool morning-
turning everything soft.

I will listen to you, soon,
but now the phone
rings loudly in my heart

and the fear of loosing
this attachment of centuries
makes me forget you again.
